Fashion Inspired by Harry Potter books and movies - Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

Since the winter holiday, I've been able to do a lot more reading for pleasure, which naturally means I've picked up the Harry Potter series yet again for another go. If you're new here let me tell you - I'm a huge Harry Potter fan. I've read the books countless times, I've dressed up to the theater, I've cried with the characters, I've raved about it with my friends, and I'll stay true to the end. HP was literally my childhood (not that me being older has made a difference), but I remember eagerly awaiting the arrival of each book and movie. There is something truly so magical about this series... Magical enough to make me wear HP t-shirts to sleep, buy an acceptance letter, and even go to a University with the house system. (Yup, that was a determining factor in the end...har har har!!)
About Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
If you haven't read the book (which you should!)  here's a (very) brief summary (I don't wanna spoil it for you!) Harry Potter who just last year found out he was a wizard, returns to Hogwarts for his second year. But there seems to be something different about the school this year, mysterious messages on the walls claim that the legendary Chamber of Secrets has been opened and that the Heir of Slytherin has returned. Slowly students are being petrified. Throughout the year, Harry, Rob, and Hermione investigate the attacks. 
Outfit 1 - The Flying Car
This was such a heart-pounding moment of the book and movie! In this scene, Harry and Ron are unable to get into platform 9 3/4 and miss the Hogwarts express. Out of desperation, they take Ron's father's car to the castle instead. In this outfit, I started with a blue dress with buttons that resembled the headlights of the car. I added a trunk-like bag, and a cage and owl accessories which resemble Harry's trunk and Hedwig. Finally, I added a few white pieces and brown flats.The Flying Car


Outfit 2 - Tom Riddle's Diary 

Another magical moment in the book is when Harry finds Tom Morvolo Riddle's diary. He realizes that when he writes in it, it writes back. The diary shows him  the events of 50 years ago, when the Chamber of Secrets is first opened. The book is jet back with golden accents. I found a clutch that resembled the color and corner of the book. Then, I found a stunning black and gold dress and paired it off with a leather accented coat. Then I added a few gold and black accessories, chunky heels, and a book ring. Finally, a pair of deathly hollows earrings!

Outfit 3 - Fawkes the Phoenix 
Fawkes is one of my favorite animals in the series. A magical, majestic phoenix who is Dumbledore's companion. Harry first sees Fawkes in the headmaster's office. The Phoenix later helps him when he is in the chamber of secrets, saving Harry's life. I'm exceptionally fond of him and the deep message that Phoenixes represent. At old age, they burst into flames and then rise again from their ashes. These birds have red and gold feathers so I started with a firey-red, ruffled dress which resembled the bird's color and feathers. Next I added a bird brooch, and golden feather accessories. I then paired the ensemble with a pair of golden heels and a sparkly clutch. To finish off the outfit, some bright red lipstick!

Outfit 5 - The Chamber of Secrets 
Nearing the end of this book/movie, Harry and Ron find themselves in the Chamber of Secrets to save one of their classmates. The chamber is damp and dark, with huge statues of snakes on either side of a long corridor. I exemplified the eerie, dark green with a dress of the same, shiny color. I then added shoes and a clutch which were both deep green and scaly. Finally, I added a few gold snake accessories with green gems to represent the hidden basilisk in the chamber.

Outfit 6 - Dueling the Basilisk 

When Harry enters the chamber, he comes face-to-face with the basilisk, and enormous snake which can kill with a single glance. To fight the basilisk, Harry uses the sword of Godric Griffindor. For this outfit, I started with a snake-skin top over a dark pair of skinny jeans. Next, I added snake accessories to represent the basilisk and a sword necklace to represent the sword of Griffindor. Finally I added a pair of cream colored flats and a backpack.

Merry Christmas...

...From the Chicago Botanic Gardens!!
I hope you've been having a wonderful holiday so far! My day was spent rather lazily - reading some Harry Potter, going to the theater, and gluing twigs on a chair (for a future shoot!) The other day my best friend Sofie and I headed to the Botanic Gardens to see their Wonderland Express exhibit. It was all so magical! There was a gingerbread house town with the cutest details, and miniature sculptures of Chicago's most iconic buildings and places... - It's all been so nice being home..My sister is back from her studies in China, and just being with the family and back in my room is nice. I'm away from all the stress of school and am really looking forward to the new year.

Oh, hello there! Long time no see. The city's changed a bit since my last post, just stating the obvious ;). I love it this way, everyone (except for people with cars) are noticeably happier. Bloor St looks like a magical lit road of red and gold gifts. Ahhh this time of year! On a more personal note, I'm finally done with my finals (woot woot!!) so I've been celebrating by enjoying this gorgeous campus and distracting whoever is around. Today was dreamy...I woke up late, had nothing to do, edited pictures from a shoot on Saturday, moped around, took outfit shots, watched America's Next Top Model, and now, I'll make lasagna and gingerbread people. It's strange how once you've finished the term, you get bored. No assignments to stress over, readings to do, or study groups to attend. Ah well, I will enjoy the boredom with my kittens until leaving to visit the family back home in Chicago this Friday. Campus is clearing out as everyone is leaving for the winter holiday, so these photos were barely interrupted by strangers lurking past. win.

Yup, my favorite Beatle - and for good reason too! He's a brilliant song-writer, multi-instrumentalist, and composer. As I'm writing this I'm actually listening to his song "Yesterday". Isn't it lovely?
The day's are getting pretty bitter cold and finals are literally a few days away! It's been a pretty stressful week, so thank God for Saturday (except not really because it was spent in the library). My hardest exam is on Friday the 13th ha ha ha so until then, I will be a busy busy bee! Apart from school, I've been doing a few shoots and planning a lot more installments of Stories of Elsewhere which is all rather exciting if I do say so myself! I wish I could say a bit more but it's back to the books for me! Have a wonderful weekend! xx
