"It's Time for Redemption"
Took a little drive to the east side of the city with my friends Pandora and Rob to finally (I've been meaning to do this for a year) try The Burger's Priest. I'm crazy about burgers. If the toppings are in the wrong order, it loses points. If it's dry, duh it loses points. If the veggie to patty ratio is off...well, ya know the drill. But Burger's Priest...oh my goodness.. I'm not exactly sure how to begin explaining the perfection that entered our mouths. These burgers were insane. We ordered from the secret menu (which is, in my opinion, always the way to go) expecting a tasty burger and that's that. We found, that for one of the first times ever, the burgers looked like the picture. They were ginormous...monstrous...better than expected. Have I seriously gone this long in Toronto without trying their chili cheese fries...? Why wasn't I there once a week binge eating whatever I dared order? I'll never know... Seriously, any burger shack that acknowledges all the other famous, wonderful burger joints out there (In N Out, per-say) is a winner. 
Burgers are a religion
I never have problems finishing my burgers (with the exception of a visit to Kuma's Corner in Chicago) but this one was..troubling. They gave us the burger with enough napkins to make any environmentalist squirm, and we needed every last one. It was ooey gooey goodness. Flavor (aka grease) was dripping down our arms and clogging our arteries in the most beautiful way possible. I was literally sweating as I tried biting into the mass of flavor. No matter how much my stomach grumbled uncomfortably, I just couldn't stop eating the best burger I've ever had - and I've had some pretty damn good burgers. The Holy Smokes (picture one) consisted of two melt-in-your mouth patties, cheese, and panko-crusted jalapenos. The Vatican City (picture two) was possibly the craziest burger our team ordered. a double cheeseburger with grilled-cheese buns. I dared bite into it, and my eyes rolled back into my head. How is it possible that food can make you feel so much pleasure.....? The Pope (pictures three and four) was my order. a double cheeseburger with "The Option" - their vegetarian "Option." It's a blend of cheesy goodness in-between two portobello mushrooms, breaded, and deep fried. Biting into this was crazy. The burger basically exploded. I wish I could explain a bit more about how amazing everything was (including their chili cheese fries) but I actually can't. Just go if you're in the Toronto area. They are worth the wait, they are worth the crowded small shack, they are worth the strange feeling you get in your stomach when you're done, they are worth having your body feel like it is protruding oil. I'm excited to try a few more of their secret-menu burgers next time, especially the "Religious Hypocrite" (The Option + Bacon) and perhaps one day, "The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse," all in good time though. Our bodies needs a month long cleanse. Where can I get spinach smoothies around here?

Darkness is a Harsh term, dontchya think?

Hello from Toronto!
It's been a very long, tedious past couple of days, but I am finally all moved and settled in to my new apartment in Toronto. I miss Chicago and my friends there very much but here's to another year of learning, I've had all summer long to empty up my brain and I'm pretty excited to fill it with some more stuff this year! It's so surreal being back..almost as if I never left. Each time I return I forget how gorgeous the campus is in summer (as most of my time here is cold and wet). There's ivy and vines everywhere, flowers, gorgeous architecture...swoon.

As for the new place, I'm absolutely in love. It's not much, but with the best friends a girl could ask for, a few of my favorite things, and a pretty bouquet of white flowers, it already feels like home. My roommate Shanu and I have already found our new love, grocery shopping. I can't even explain to you how lovely we feel walking down aisles of fresh produce, neatly piled and brightly colored. I have a very strong feeling I'll be doing a lot less clothes shopping as most of my money will be spent on over-priced Whole Foods walnuts and purple peppers (did you know those were a thing?)
Shanu and I went on a little walk around campus today to enjoy the stunning weather. It was literally perfect. Super warm, but with a very wonderful, light breeze. The perfect opportunity to debut a few new favorite pieces of mine.. I got this mint crop top from Urban Outfitters back in Chicago just a few weeks ago. I've never owned a crop top, as I'm not sure I can pull off that look, but this one was extremely hard to say no to. It's soft color and floral design was screaming my name. Also, sales rack!!! Big plus. It was just perfect with this high-wasted pink skirt (I was wearing it when I bought it). I didn't even have to go through the trouble of tucking it in! Yoopie! I also got a new pair of oxford flats from Aldo, as my mum refused to let me take my other ones. Apparently they were too "disgusting" to be socially acceptable. But hey...cut me some slack, a few rips and scuffs never hurt anyone! Few may be an understatement, they were pretty destroyed...but I had trouble letting go of those shoes. They've been with me for five years. Goodness me.. These were pretty similar though, so I handed over my other pair (also from Aldo) and strutted home with a new pretty pair of shiny shoes. I will walk in caution with these though, as I refuse to throw away another pair of shoes for a very long time...

Bunny Love

I'm not discriminating against puppies, but bunnies (and cats, of course) are just so cute. But most baby animals are and I'm not going to start rambling about my obsession with fluffy things because that will take quiet a bit of space! The days leading up to my return back to Toronto are rather quick, each one getting faster and faster. I remember just the beginning of the summer I was dreading how slow the weeks would go by, but now I'm just begging everything to slow down. Please, I need more summer!

I met up with my dear friend Maddie the other day for some coffee and much needed catching up. It's rare to see her so I was delighted to sit at Starbucks and chat for hours about everything that happened this past year. Friends like her make me realize that there are some people you can go a year or two without seeing, and yet it's like nothing has changed when you meet up again. Much love to you Mads! xx


If you live in Chicago or anywhere near it, you'll understand that the weather is crazy bipolar. One day I'll crank up the AC and lock myself in the basement, and the next I'll throw on a jacket and rain boots. The weather yesterday was fairly tame, a bit of a breeze every now and then, not too hot not too cold.. I know a lot of more interesting people would have (and did) use this special time to get all dolled up in something extra nice (a skirt or dress perhaps?) but it was one of those days, for me at least, where all you want to do is throw on a comfy pair jeans. I love comfort, and oh me oh my was this ensemble just that! I showcased a few new, and rather adorable (if I do say so myself), pieces. This shirt for instance represents everything I love about dressing excessively girly and getting 'blegh, gross' faces from..just about everyone haha! I picked it up off the sales rack at Francesca's and never looked back! The heart pattern is divine and the cinched sleeves and back give it such great personality. Paired off with a pink little bunny-purse and tada!..well..what's not to love?

Fashion Inspired by Harry Potter books and movies - Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

In honor of Harry (and Jo's) birthday yesterday, I have decided to start a new thread of posts: Fashion inspired by Harry Potter books and movies! HP was literally my childhood. I remember the anticipation between each and every book, and I remember my mom telling me to go to bed as I hid under my blankets with my flashlight and harry potter glasses, eagerly reading the pages Jo graciously gave us. To this day, I still read and watch the series over and over again and am recognized by friends and family as a Potter head. Yes, I sleep in "Hogwarts" shirts, yes I have badges, yes I think the school is real, yes I got an acceptance letter (who cares if I bought it?) with my name on it, yes I've cried countless times while reading the books and watching the movies, yes I'm currently listening to the soundtracks, and yes the Sorcerer's Stone is currently right next to me. Also, I'm married to like, all the characters, hardy-har-har.
About Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone:
If you haven't read the book (which you should!)  here's a (very) brief summary (I don't wanna spoil it for you!) - Harry Potter, a young boy of 11 who lives a miserable life with his aunt, uncle, and spoiled cousin, Dudley, receives a mysterious letter from Hogwarts, a school claiming to be a school of witchcraft and wizardry. At his arrival, Harry encounters wonderful things he never dreamed existed - fascinating magical creatures, a cloak of invisibility, aerial sports, and for the first time in his life, many wonderful friends.
Outfit 1 - The Letters From No One

One of Harry's first magical moments occurs when he is showered with hundreds of letters from Hogwarts. This is one of my favorite scenes of all time, it's incredibly touching and exciting *tears up and swoons*. Here Harry is wearing one of Dudley's oversized hand-me-downs, and (of course) surrounded by white envelopes with green script!
I wanted to keep this outfit simple, making sure nothing looked too polished or put together. I started off with an over-sized plaid dress to represent Harry's clothing and paired it off with some generic gray tights and simple pumps. To finish the look, I added an envelope clutch and an owl necklace to embody the Hogwarts letters delivered by owl.


Outfit 2 - The Journey from Platform nine and three quarters
 Another part of the book and movie I fell in love with was when Harry enters Platform 9 3/4 and sees the Hogwarts Express for the very first time. The train leaves King's Cross Station on September 1st at exactly 11 o'clock in the morning and arrives at Hogsmeade each year. Here Harry first meets his soon-to-be-friends Ron, Hermione, Neville, Fred, and George as well as his enemy, Malfoy.
Unlike the first outfit, I wanted this one to look prim and proper. The Hogwarts Express is truly a magnificent train - grand, majestic, and always on time. I started off with a classic, prim black dress, ink mary-janes, and a shiny red satchel to represent the colors and simple beauty of the train. I accessorized by adding a classy pair of black gloves, and a train-pendant necklace.
Outfit 3 - The Mirror of Erised
The Mirror of Erised shows us "nothing more or less than the deepest, most desperate desire of our hearts." Written across the top of the mirror are the words - Erised stra ehru oyt ube cafru oyt on wohsi. If reflected in a mirror, this would read - I show not your face but your hearts desire. I really loved this chapter. The mirror played an important part of the book. Not only does it show us how much Harry wanted a family, it also helps him find the stone at the end. Though such a mirror would easily enchant anyone, Dumbledore explains that "Men have wasted away before it, not knowing if what they have seen is real, or even possible." As a child I always wondered what I would see looking through the mirror, but now I realize that "it does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live."
Outfit 4 - Wizard's Chess
Being the crazy chess geek that I am, this part of the book/movie was one of my favorites. I'm not sure I'd be into life-sized wizard's chess but a small, moving board would be awesome :). For this outfit, I used a simple checkered skirt that reminded me of the chess board. I paired it off with some dark skinny jeans and black flats. Finally, I added chess piece earrings, a simple clutch, and black sunglasses.
Outfit 5 - The Sorcerer's Stone
At the end of the book, Harry comes face-to-face with Voldemort who is after the Sorcerer's Stone. Because Harry doesn't want to use the stone, he is able to get it from the Mirror of Erised. For this outfit I chose a red, jagged dress that resembled the color and texture of the stone. I then added a red stone necklace and accessorized with a gold shoes, clutch, bracelets, and clips because the stone can turn any metal into solid gold.
